Title of the paper :
Virtual Realities and Digital Selves: A Media Theory Perspective on Anuja Chauhans The House That BJ Built
Abstract:
In Anuja Chauhans The House That BJ Built, there is an important literary and theoretical contribution to understanding the contemporary digital landscape of India. This article highlights how Chauhans work engages media theory Marshall McLuhans medium is the message, Jean Baudrillards simulacra and hyperreality and Lev Manovichs new media to examine the complexities of digital identities and virtual realities. The study conducts a textual analysis of how individuals negotiate their private and public identities in digital spaces, considering the broader socio cultural shifts occurring in urban India. The study further concludes that Chauhan’s novel offers a critical analysis of virtual realities shaped by technology, capitalism, and media saturation. Chauhans critique in this novel is a contribution to both media studies discussions and theoretical considerations of literature in contemporary India.
