Sustainability Practices in Supply Chain Management A Contemporary Overview
Abstract:
Purpose Sustainability has become a central pillar of contemporary business practices, especially in Supply Chain Management SCM and has emerged as a critical focus for businesses aiming to reduce their environmental impact, enhance social responsibility, and ensure long term economic viability. The pressure to align operations with environmental, social, and economic considerations has prompted companies to embrace sustainability practices that contribute to long-term value creation while reducing their ecological footprint. Methodology This study employs a qualitative research approach, analysing recent academic literature, industry reports, and case studies. The analysis focuses on identifying key sustainability practices, their implementation challenges, and the benefits they offer to supply chain stakeholders. Findings This paper provides an indepth exploration of sustainability practices within SCM, highlighting key trends such as green logistics, circular economy models, ethical sourcing, and the role of technology. It discusses the challenges businesses face when integrating these practices into their supply chains and offers strategies to overcome them. Implications A review of recent academic literature provides to academicians and researchers, a comprehensive understanding of the current landscape of sustainable SCM. The study provides insights from recent research and industry practices to offer practical recommendations for organizations and policy makers, aiming to achieve sustainable supply chains.
