Title of the paper :
Enslavement And Maternal Sacrifice in Toni Morrisons A Mercy
Abstract:
A Mercy by Toni Morrison examines the issues of maternal sacrifice and slavery in early America, emphasizing the hardships faced by women, mothers in particular under repressive structures. With an emphasis on Florenss mothers agonizing decision to give her daughter away as a sacrifice, the book explores the ways in which slavery impacts identity, relationships, and survival. Morrison challenges conventional notions of motherhood by portraying maternal love as an act of both strength and grief. This study explores how A Mercy reinterprets motherhood and slavery, highlighting the profound psychological and emotional effects of maternal sacrifice.
