Exploring the Identity, Culture and Social Justice in Sandra Cisneros The House On Mango Street
Abstract:
This paper explores intersecting themes of identity, culture, and social justice in Sandra Cisneros The House on Mango Street. Through the female characters, this novel explores the difficulties of being Latina and growing up in a low-income Chicago neighborhood. This paper demonstrates how The House on Mango Street provides a potent critique of structural inequities and a tribute to the tenacity of Latina youth by examining the conflicts between cultural legacy and individual ambition. This novel is a potent social justice tool that raises a critical understanding of the ways racism, sexism, and classism are intertwine.
