Title of the paper :
Displaced Nurture: Motherhood and Migration in the Indian Context
Abstract:
This paper explores the concept of displaced nurture to examine how migration reconfigures motherhood in the Indian context, disrupting traditional caregiving roles through geographic, emotional, and institutional dislocations. Drawing on literary representations, empirical studies, and policy analysis, it highlights the gendered impacts of internal and transnational migration on maternal care, especially among marginalized women engaged in informal and domestic labor. The study underscores systemic gaps in labor protections and social support, advocating for rights based, gender transformative policies that recognize care as a collective responsibility.
