Title of the paper :
Role of Health Insurance in Mitigating Climate Induced Migration in India: A Welfare Economics Perspective
Abstract:
Climate change intensifies health and livelihood risks that often compel vulnerable populations to migrate. This study examines the role of health insurance in mitigating climate induced migration in India, through a welfare economics perspective. Health insurance is conceptualized as a social protection mechanism that enhances welfare by reducing the uncertainty and financial burden of climate related health shocks. The research analyses how access to health insurance influences migration decisions under environmental stress. The study further assesses the welfare implications of expanding climate responsive health insurance coverage in several regions of India.
