Abstract:
Drought is the immediate consequence of climate catastrophe. This article is an investigation of the gender and vulnerability in the drought prone areas of India Maharashtra and South Africa. As a consequence of this unresolved crisis, this region suffers significantly from the negative impact of drought. By examining secondary data and trends through descriptive and comparative analysis, various drought indicators of both regions evaluated. The gendered vulnerabilities and potential triggers of drought are also explored. Drought affected baldly on GDP, agriculture production, population, livestock and other drought indicators in both regions. The aftermath of drought affects everyone, but it severely impacts on the most vulnerable section of society especially women and children. The study also identifies that El Nino induced low rainfall, mismanagement of water resources, non viable agricultural practices and other natural and anthropogenic activities are the major triggers of drought in these regions
