Title of the paper :
Ecological Shift and Human Mobility: A Historical Study of Migration in Kerala
Abstract:
This paper examines the intricate relationship between ecological shifts and human migration in Kerala from a historical perspective. Migration, both internal and external, has long been influenced by environmental, social, and economic transformations. Kerala, with its unique ecological diversity from coastal plains to highland regions has witnessed multiple waves of migration shaped by changes in its environmental and economic structure. The study employs a data supported analytical framework drawing from secondary sources such as Census reports, Kerala Economic Reviews, and published research. It highlights how ecological changes such as deforestation, floods, and coastal erosion have historically driven human mobility, while migration itself has altered the ecological balance through land-use change and urbanization. The paper concludes that sustainable management of Keralas environment requires integrating migration policy with ecological conservation and regional planning strategies.
