Title of the paper :
Eco diasporas: Reimagining Migration through Nature in Richard Powers The Overstory
Abstract:
Richard Powers The Overstory 2018 redefines the literary intersections between ecology and migration, depicting human displacement not merely as a social or political phenomenon but as an ecological one. This paper explores the concept of eco diasporas the idea that both humans and nonhuman life forms share parallel experiences of migration, uprooting, and survival amid environmental crises. Through its interlinked narratives, Powers novel maps the symbiotic and migratory bonds between people and trees, transforming the act of migration into an ecological dialogue about belonging, displacement, and regeneration. By reimagining migration through nature, The Overstory challenges anthropocentric notions of diaspora and offers a broader ecological consciousness that unites all living systems within a shared story of movement and adaptation.
