Title of the paper :
Shakespeares Hamlet: A Play of Revenge or Self Destruction
Abstract:
This paper examines William Shakespeares Hamlet, focusing on whether the protagonist is driven primarily by revenge or by self destruction. At its core, the play tells the story of Hamlet, the Prince of Denmark, who is obliged to avenge his fathers murder. However, he constantly hesitates, questioning his decisions and oscillating between action and inaction. This conflict between determination and hesitation reveals his vulnerability. Instead of finding resolution through revenge, Hamlet becomes trapped in his thoughts and in a habit of overthinking and moralizing, which ultimately leads to his own downfall and self destruction. In brief, Hamlet is not merely about the tragic consequences of overthinking and emotional turmoil it is one of the most profound portrayals of the human condition in literature.
