Title of the paper :
Trauma, Memory and Fragmented Narratives of Partition Literature by selected short Story writers across The Border
Abstract:
In the history of any nation there are periods which affect the common man so much that the creative writers cannot afford to ignore them. The partition of India caused a social upheaval and had wide and deep impact on the huge population involved on both sides of the border. The contemporary writers who had a first-hand experience of the trauma of partition held a mirror up to the times that remained as an agonised memory in their writings and the present day short story writers look back to reconstruct an ethos of that period for the readers. Through this paper I have tried to explore how the best of literature by the short story writers, across the border that emerged in the wake of partition and bears the imprint of the struggle to grapple with the pain and suffering , the holocaust that followed on a scale that was unprecedented in South of Asia.
