Title of the paper :
Baul Philosophy and the Quest for Gender Justice
Abstract:
Baul philosophy, rooted in the folk mysticism of Bengal, views humanity beyond all divisions especially those of gender. For the Bauls, every being carries within them both the masculine and feminine energies, and true spiritual realization comes from balancing these forces in harmony. Their songs, dances, and way of life celebrate freedom, love, and the search for the divine within oneself rather than through rigid social or religious rules. In the Baul tradition, men and women walk the same path of devotion, each seen as an equal vessel of the divine. This vision of unity and mutual respect challenges the boundaries of patriarchy and inequality. By embracing the Baul understanding of inner balance and shared humanity, gender equality becomes not only a social goal but a deeply spiritual truth.
