Title of the paper :
Natures Canvas: A Collection of Reflections with Special Reference to Kiran Desais Novels
Abstract:
This paper examines the complex and multifaceted depiction of nature in kiran Desais award winning novels, Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard 1998, The Inheritance of Loss 2006. Moving beyond a simple pastoral or romantic lens, Desai employs nature as a dynamic, often disruptive force that mirrors and shapes the psychological, social, and political realities of her characters. This analysis argues that in Desais work nature functions as a site of contested modernity and ecological disruption, a metaphor for displacement, longing and the search for identity and political violence, particularly in the postcolonial context. Her narratives reveal and intricate bond between landscape and consciousness, where external environments are inseparable from internal states of being. The theme of the environment in literature explores the complex association between humans and their environs. Nature in writing act as a prominent setting, symbol, and character, influencing mood, reflecting human emotions, providing consolation or menace and highlighting humanities relationship with the environment, from inspiring divine connectionRomanticism to driving ecological awareness Ecocriticism, serving as a backdrop for plot and character development and present philosophical metaphors for life, death and renewal.
