Title of the paper :
Teaching Language through Novels: Innovative Approaches for Degree College Students
Abstract:
This paper explores innovative approaches to teaching language through novels at the degree college level. Traditionally, novels have been taught primarily for literary analysis, often neglecting their potential as effective tools for language development. The study proposes learner centered and activity based strategies that integrate reading, writing, speaking, and vocabulary skills through the teaching of novels. Techniques such as task based learning, reader response activities, role play, group discussions, and contextual vocabulary exercises are highlighted to demonstrate how novels can enhance communicative competence among undergraduate learners. By shifting the focus from content centered instruction to language oriented pedagogy, the paper argues that novels can become powerful resources for holistic language learning. The study is particularly relevant in the context of contemporary higher education, where developing functional language skills is essential for academic and professional success.
