Resale and Refurbishment: Unlocking Value in Circular Commerce
Abstract:
Statement of the problem This study focuses on the circular economy as a sustainable alternative to linear production and consumption models, emphasising the role of resale and refurbishment in extending product life cycles, reducing waste, and conserving natural resources. Objectives of the Study The primary objectives are to examine consumers perceptions of resale and refurbished goods as drivers of the circular economy and to analyse the relationship between consumer purchase intentions and environmental awareness. Significance of the Study The study contributes to the field of sustainable consumption and environmental sustainability by offering practical insights for businesses and policymakers. It highlights resale and refurbishment as effective mechanisms for promoting circular economy initiatives and encouraging resource efficient and sustainable consumption patterns. Methodology A quantitative research design is adopted for the study. Primary data were collected through a structured questionnaire using a Likert scale from 200 consumers with potential exposure to resale and refurbished goods using a purposive sampling method. Descriptive and inferential statistical techniques are used for data analysis. Key Findings The findings reveal that consumers have a positive perception of resale and refurbished products, viewing them as environmentally responsible and supportive of circular economy practices. The results also indicate a significant relationship between environmental awareness and consumer purchase intentions.
