Title of the paper :
Interconnectedness of Freedom and Responsibility in Paulo Coelhos Adultery and Eleven Minutes
Abstract:
Brazilian writer Paulo Coelho, with his charismatic way of expression, has the capability to influence and transform many lives. His journey as a fiction writer begins with The Pilgrimage 1987 at the age of forty and this journey continues till the day. His works carry resilient and candid life experiences, which are relatable to the male and the female readers equally. Through his works, various talks and interviews, he opens up new vistas for self exploration and self realization in this modern world, where the man has to grapple with daily humbug. The present research paper explores the existential analysis of the female protagonists, Linda in Adultery and Maria in Eleven Minutes. In their places and circumstances, they both opt for freedom as an essential element of their lifestyle and put everything at stake. Their sense of responsibility is finally reclaimed by them for themselves and the surroundings. This paper examines the interconnectedness of freedom and responsibility through the lens of existentialism.
