Title of the paper :
The Ethics of Remembrance: Historical Trauma through Narrative Techniques in Han Kangs We Do Not Part
Abstract:
This paper will discuss The Ethics of Remembrance Historical Trauma through Narrative in Han Kangs We Do Not Part. It focuses specifically on how historical brutality that was suppressed in the past is depicted through new narrative techniques in the novel. The work was also centered on the issue of historical trauma, specifically that of the Jeju Massacre. Han Kang, in her work We Do Not Part, tackles the issue of dealing with historical suffering. Through the lens of trauma theory, historical references, and memory theory, this paper interrogates how Han Kang interprets broken history, silence, violent past events, friendship, and spectral imagery in the novel. Unlike a historical narrative that presents historical events in a chronological manner, this work presents various narrative techniques, ambiguity, and feelings, which depict historical memories that were shattered. The work, therefore, presents an ethics of remembrance by keeping historical trauma open and meaningful in the present.
