Title of the paper :
Exploring the Relationship Between Body Esteem and Social Media Addiction among Adolescent Girls
Abstract:
The present study examined the relationship between body esteem and social media addiction among adolescent girls aged 16 to 18 years. A quantitative correlational research design was used with a purposive sample of 50 female participants. Body Esteem Scale for Adolescents and Adults, Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale were used to assess body esteem and social media addiction respectively. Statistical analysis revealed a significant negative correlation between body esteem and social media addiction indicating that that excessive social media use may contribute to decreased body esteem in adolescent girls. Low body esteem is a well established predictor of compromised mental health outcomes such as depression, anxiety, eating related pathology, and reduced self worth. This research highlights the need of addressing excessive social media use in mental health management of adolescent girls.
