Title of the paper : Traditional Practices to Technology Enabled Agriculture: Pathways for Sustainable Rural Transformation and National Progress in India

Abstract: Agriculture is a foundational sector of the Indian economy and it is crucial for rural livelihood and food security across the country. The primary sector remains the largest employer, providing livelihoods to a large portion of the population and influencing overall economic stability and rural demand. Agriculture and allied activities contribute nearly 16 per cent to Indias GDP, and the sector employs around 46.1 per cent of the workforce. This sector is a major source of raw materials to the industrial sector and generates foreign exchange and boosting rural development and purchasing power. The Indian agriculture sector faces critical challenges in productivity, sustainability and modernisation. Viksit Bharat agriculture aims to transform the farm sectors of India to a sustainable, technology driven and engine of growth by 2047. The main focus area in agriculture includes enhancing productivity and fuelling the supply chain by leveraging AI and empowering farmers through modern technology. The study examines how technological advancements in agriculture, such as precision farming, remote sensing, artificial intelligence, digital advisory platforms, biotechnology, and mobile based market access are improving the productivity, efficiency and sustainability in India. Initiatives of the government such as Digital India, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bhima Yojana are the key enablers in enhancing technology adoption in the agricultural sector of India. Technology-based innovations can enhance productivity, ensure food security and promote environmental sustainability. Fostering digital literacy, strengthening rural infrastructure and ensuring access to technology are essential to achieving sustainable rural transformation and achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat.
