Title of the paper : Educational technology policies in India: From UGC to SWAYAM

Abstract: Educational technology has become an essential component of the modern education system, transforming traditional teaching–learning practices through the use of digital tools and online platforms. In India, several policies and initiatives have been introduced to integrate technology into higher education and to improve accessibility, quality, and flexibility in learning. This paper examines the development of educational technology policies in India with special reference to the initiatives of the University Grants Commission UGC and the introduction of the SWAYAM Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds platform. The study highlights the role of UGC in promoting Information and Communication Technology ICT in education through various guidelines, programs, and digital learning initiatives. It also analyses how SWAYAM provides Massive Open Online Courses MOOCs that enable students to access quality education from leading institutions across the country. The paper further discusses the advantages and challenges associated with the implementation of educational technology policies in India. Overall, the study emphasizes that the effective use of educational technology can enhance the reach and quality of higher education and support the development of an inclusive and technology driven education system.
