Title of the paper :
Exploring the Status of Women in North East India through Socio Economic and Political Dimensions
Abstract:
North East India, characterized by its rich cultural diversity and unique socio political landscape, offers a distinct narrative regarding the status of women. This study explores the socio economic, cultural, and political dimensions shaping womens lives across the region. Using both primary and secondary data, the research examines literacy rates, economic participation, political representation, and cultural involvement of women in the eight North Eastern states. It also highlights the gender based challenges they face, including domestic violence, limited healthcare access, and systemic inequities. The findings reveal substantial disparities among states, with progressive strides in education and cultural inclusion counterbalanced by underrepresentation in governance and persisting gender based violence. Case studies showcase community led initiatives and role models driving empowerment. The paper concludes with actionable recommendations to bridge gaps, emphasizing the importance of policy reforms, grassroots advocacy, and community led interventions. This holistic understanding seeks to inform stakeholders about addressing inequalities and fostering inclusive growth for women in North East India.
