Title of the paper :
The Impact of Male Suppression on Anxiety and Life Satisfaction in Males
Abstract:
While standard masculinity norms are widely researched, less is known about how the specific tendency toward male emotional suppression shapes a persons broader psychological health and daily quality of life. To address this gap, the current study investigated the specific effects of male suppression on both anxiety and overall life satisfaction. A diverse sample of 100 participants comprising corporate employees and junior college students was assessed using the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, the General Anxiety Disorder 7 GAD 7, and the Satisfaction with Life Scale SWLS. The results clearly indicate that male suppression has a powerful, negative impact on psychological functioning. Analysis revealed a strong positive relationship between suppression and anxiety, meaning that as emotional restriction increased, anxiety symptoms worsened. Conversely, a significant negative relationship emerged regarding life satisfaction, showing that higher suppression closely aligns with diminished personal fulfilment. Ultimately, these findings highlight a damaging dual dynamic where restrictive emotional norms not only fuel psychological distress but actively dismantle an individuals capacity for a satisfying life.
