Title of the paper : Global South Feminisms: Confronting Western Dominance and Centering Grassroots Voices

Abstract: This article critically examines how Global South feminisms contest Western dominance within feminist discourse by foregrounding regional histories, subaltern experiences, and grassroots forms of resistance. Mainstream Western feminist frameworks have frequently generalised womens oppression, prioritizing gender while inadequately addressing the intersections of colonialism, caste, class, race, poverty, and ecological exploitation. In response, feminists from Asia, Africa, and Latin America have developed alternative epistemologies rooted in specific socio political and historical contexts. Through movements led by rural women, Indigenous communities, and environmental activists, Global South feminisms broaden the meaning of resistance and social justice. This article explores how these perspectives question Eurocentric assumptions and highlight collective action, survival struggles, and community based knowledge systems. Drawing on the works of Chandra Talpade Mohanty, Vandana Shiva, and Bina Agarwal, this study explores how Global South feminisms emphasize collective agency, material realities, and community centered struggles. The study argues that contemporary feminism must move beyond Western mainstream narratives and recognize diverse voices that emerge from everyday struggles across the Global South.
