Title of the paper : Voiceless Women in Conservative Society: A Study of Irma Voth

Abstract: Irma Voth by Miriam Toews explores the struggles of women in a conservative Mennonite community where religious and social norms restrict freedom and self expression. This paper analyses how patriarchal structures silence women and limit their individuality. It also examines the emotional conflicts faced by women as they balance personal desires with societal expectations. Through Irmas relationship with her family and the outside world, the novel portrays the awakening of female consciousness and the desire for independence. The study concludes that oppression in conservative societies causes emotional suffering, identity loss, and denial of personal freedom.
