Title of the paper :
Cultural disintegration of tribal community: A study of Narayans Kocharethi: The Araya Woman
Abstract:
Culture and Society are always dynamic. The novel Kocharethi- the Araya Woman by Narayan, the first Adivasi novelist of Kerala, depicts the life of Malayarayar- a tribal community dwelled in the pre-colonial Travancore state, in the Western ghats near Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki districts of Kerala. The protagonist of the novel is Kunjipennu, a Malayarayathi, whose life goes through a roller coaster of different phases of poverty, despair, prosperity and finally abandonment along with her husband Kochuraman. The novel was published in 1998 by DC Books and was later translated into English by Catherine Thankamma. It won the Kerala Sahitya Academy Award in 1998.This paper clearly depicts the cultural disintegration of tribal community.
