Title of the paper :
Gender, Sexuality and Race in media representation – incarnating the ideas of children and youth
Abstract:
This research provides an overview of on how media influences young peoples conceptions of gender. Notwithstanding some positive developments, content analyses reveal that women are non-moving under-represented and that both femininity and with the masculinity are inaccurately portrayed in the media. Three meta-analyses that evaluated the extent of media effect revealed findings that there is a tenuous but enduring relationship Between much television and more traditional representations of gender concepts. Analyzes found that young peoples use of screen media and their attitudes towards general gender stereotypes, perceptions of the importance of physical appearance for girls and women, stereotypes for toys, activities and occupations, and support for traditional gender roles. It has been shown that there is an increasing advent of perception of children and adults. Assuming social constructivism, we believe that these images of gender representation in movies affect our perception of what a man or a woman is. Our results suggest that the characters do still follow the patriarchal privilege but some characters do on occasion challenge them. However, the outcome is rarely successful.
