Title of the paper :
Ethnocultural Dynamism in The Contemporary Poetry from Indias Northeast: A Study of Select Poets
Abstract:
Ethnocultural aspects play a very vital role in the life of the people living in a particular place in the world. Ethnicity, Socio cultural factors, mythological beliefs and practices and religious affiliation are the instrumental factors for the affirmation of ones identity, individual or collective. India’s Northeast is a cultural mosaic housing numerous heterogenous cultural traditions as people living in this geographical belt practise and profess various ethnic traits and beliefs. Poetry from the region is also a document of such ethnocultural characteristics that govern the life of people. In the contemporary scenario, poets from the region honestly depict the sensibilities of the people with an ethnocultural approach to reaffirm culture and identity of the tribes and communities. Apart from this, they also express their concerns about diluting cultural trends which is a result of globalization and modernization in restating the cultural legacy. This paper aims at examining such ethnocultural dynamism inherently present in the contemporary poetry from Indias Northeast with the help of a select poets.
