The Evolving Landscapes in Chetan Bhagats Fiction Urban India, Youth Narratives, and Educational Tensions
Abstract:
This paper investigates the changing thematic and spatial landscapes in the fiction of Chetan Bhagat. He created sensation in Indian society by his latest and factual themes in his novels. In the digital age, online shops, ecopies, soft copies, audio books are easily available on internet and within a click the readers can find his interested matter. Bhagat has taken issues and problems of Youth with new high-tech Indian background. The paper focuses on urban transformation with it dark side, youth centered narrative and educational pressure on students and parents of Indian society. The research studies his novels, that how Chetan Bhagat has exposed his protagonists psychological, social and cultural shift in the modern time. His narrative technique made the reader engaged till the end, which explores his practice of involving himself in the story. The analysis goes with the framework of contemporary Indian identity. It examines the challenges in Education System, Urban sensibility, youth aspirations, generational gap, corruption, politics etc. in his novels. Bhagat has brought great change in themes, settings, protagonists background, issues and his technique of storytelling which got much popular though his language is easy and simple. He shifted from rural background of earlier Indian English literature to a more globalized, developed and modern India. The paper also argues the issues and problems, which are emerged with this development, globalization and modernization in India. His keen observation to tackle the facts and realities of society made him different from other novelists. His novels have been adopted for the movies by very famous producers and directors for his uniqueness in themes, subject matters and innovative ideas of change.
