Title of the paper :
Migration Experiences in The Novel of Sefi Atta
Abstract:
The purpose of this paper presentation on migration experiences of women during the postcolonial period and what challenges are faced by African individuals, for which I have selected a novel Swallow 2010 by Sefi Atta. The complex female protagonist characters in the novel, are Sef and Rose Tolani Girls in Sawllow, where Atta reveals how displacement, whether internal or external shapes their identity, cultural dislocation, survival vs integrity, unemployment, corruption and self perception…etc. Drawing on postcolonial, this paper examines how Atta challenges stereotypes, exposes systemic injustices, and reclaims voice through narrative. Migration is not just movement but a transformative journey toward or away from selfhood. Therefore, the core cause of this migration and their struggle and survival is because of their poverty in village, which leads them to go lagos to lead a decent and peaceful life.
