Title of the paper :
Portrayal of Female Characters in the Ramayana
Abstract:
Indian classics feature a rich array of women characters, displaying strength, wisdom and complexity. Sita from the Ramayana, Draupadi from the Mahabharata, and Shakuntala from Abhijnanashakuntalam are iconic figures, each embodying different virtues and facing diverse challenges. Their stories often explore themes of duty, love and resilience. Mandodari, the wife of demon king Ravana, exhibits strength and wisdom. Surpanakha, Ravanas sister, plays a crucial role in the narrative by instigating events. Kaikeyi, Ramas stepmother, is a complex character in the Ramayana. She was the third wife of King Dashratha and the mother of Bharata. These characters contribute to the diverse portrayal of women and their roles in the epic.
