Title of the paper :
Technology and Trauma The Impact of Online Abuse in Anita Nairs Eating Wasps
Abstract:
In Eating Wasps 2018, Anita Nair delves into the inner lives of women burdened by trauma in a rapidly evolving digital society. This paper examines how online abuse, cyberbullying, and social media driven shaming affect female characters, particularly focusing on a teenage girl and a woman journalist. The novel reveals that while technology can serve as a tool for connection and self-expression, it also acts as a site of surveillance, moral policing, and emotional harm. Through a feminist literary lens, this study explores the intersection of trauma and technology, showing how digital platforms can become extensions of patriarchal control and psychological distress. Nairs portrayal of trauma both visible and invisible underscores the vulnerability of women in virtual spaces and highlights the urgency for emotional resilience and social reform. Ultimately, the novel critiques the toxic dynamics of the digital age and calls for a reevaluation of online ethics, increased mental health awareness, and the promotion of womens agency in navigating our hyper connected realities.
