Title of the paper :
Death Behind the Glass Psychological Mortality in The Woman in the Window by A. J. Finn
Abstract:
In The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn, death is not just an ending it becomes a lingering presence in the mind of Anna Fox. She is an agoraphobic woman confined to her home. She views the world through her window, feeling cut off from reality. In the novel, death is emotional and symbolic, tied closely to space and perception. Glass, especially, represents the barrier between life and death, truth and illusion, memory and the present. Using trauma theory and psychoanalysis, this paper explores how Annas grief after losing her family leads to a kind of psychological death. Her home becomes a prison, and the window turns into a threshold where life is watched but not lived. The study argues that death, in this story, is not only a physical end but also an inner experience of isolation and unresolved pain. It offers a deeper look into how psychological thrillers reveal hidden emotional suffering beneath the suspense.
