Title of the paper :
The Unbreakable Thread: Family in THE GLASS CASTLE
Abstract:
This paper analyses the great influence of family ties in Jeannette Wallss memoir, The Glass Castle͏. It argues that such relations are important in dealing with severe challenges. The study highlights how the Walls children are thrown into adult roles for their survival͏ taking care of food and money because their parents have an unconventional and negligent style of parenting. Siblings show impressive resilience and support for one another despite relentless poverty and a somewhat transient lifestyle. The paper also critically looks at Rex Wallss adventurousness and Rose Mary Wallss selfishness within the family setting. In addition, it reviews racial discrimination incidents against the family while the parents held strong anti racist beliefs. Ultimately, the recurring symbol of the glass castle serves as a powerful metaphor for the familys enduring hope and dreams for a better future, even in the face of repeated disappointments.
