Title of the paper :
Bridging Worlds: Plants and Ecological Consciousness in Robert Louis Stevensons Selected Poetry
Abstract:
This article presents a phytocritical reading of three poems by Robert Louis Stevenson such as Night and Day, I Dreamed of Forest Alleys Fair, and Flower God, God of the Spring. Phytocriticism, a branch of ecocriticism, examines the embodiment of plant life, challenges anthropocentric perspectives, and stimulates awareness of vegetal consciousness. The study explores how Stevenson embraces plants through symbolic, aesthetic, and spiritual connotations. His selected poems reflect the human search for harmony plants serve as mediators of temporal change and existential reflection. Vegetal beings emerge as symbols of memory, peace, and longevity, while also representing renewal and cultural imagination. Through the lens of phytocriticism, this article demonstrates how Stevenson foregrounds an ecological consciousness in his poetry, presenting plants as agents of resilience, transformation, and as bridges between human and nonhuman worlds.
