Volume V Special Issue IV October 2025
Name of Author :

Title of the paper :
Human Depravity in Anita Nairs Cut Like Wound and Chain of Custody
Abstract:
The paper delves into the theme of depravity in society is examined using detective fiction including child sexual abuse and its psychological consequences. Chikka, the protagonist is a serial killer because of rape, suppressed memories and guilt. The novel Chain of Custody touches on the subject of child trafficking, labour, and sexual exploitation as it reveals the process in which children are kidnapped and tortured in the name of money and authority. Psychoanalytic theory assists in the analysis of the impact of trauma on the development of violent behaviour, whereas Queer theory discloses the impact of social pressure and identity. Ecological System Theory is the one that relates human behaviour to the family, culture, and life events. The paper finds that depravity is not only a result of personal circumstances, but also a result of the rotten society. As Anita Nair shows in her novels, laws can never be sufficient to resolve all these problems, but the actual change is to realise that moral failure and go back to humane and spiritual principles. This highlights the importance of more profound societal reflection and change in a bid to deal with such deeply seated problems.
