Title of the paper :
Reimagining Island Spaces in the Anthropocene: A Study on Pankaj Sekhsarias The Last Wave
Abstract:
Critical Island Studies as an interdisciplinary field challenges conventional viewpoints and unravels the complexities of island life, addressing global issues on a microcosmic level. Islands are sentinels of the ecosystem they facilitate pristine environments and regulate global climate change. Owing to their geographic isolation and unique ecosystem they serve as hotspots for biodiversity. Andaman and Nicobar Islands, standing as the first line of defence for Indias security with its unique ecology makes it a frontier in preserving ecological equilibrium. The primary material opted, The Last Wave by Pankaj Sekhsaria addresses global environmental challenges including climate change, rising sea levels and its impact on coastal regions. The narrative highlights the ecological fragility of island ecosystems and the impact leveraged on indigenous population and other island communities. The current study elucidates the significance of Critical Island Studies in the Global Ecological Discourse, reflects on the philosophical and ethical dimensions of the human nature relationship and calls for a more harmonious and respectful approach to nature. The findings of the study posit the need for an ecoconscious approach in fostering environmental stewardship. The implications of the study put forward cultural collaborations as an effective conservation strategy, further facilitating mutual understanding and shared sense of responsibility across diverse cultural groups, thereby nurturing environmental activism through sustainable practices.
