Manufacturing Marginalization: A Conflict Theory Analysis of Institutional Failure in Barbara Kingsolvers Demon Copperhead
Abstract:
The contemporary American novelist, Barbara Kingsolver is widely known for her realistic and riveting novels. One such is her Pulitzer winning novel Demon Copperhead published in 2022 which unveils the plot that is intricately woven together with the aspects of family structure and the societal condition. The novel elaborates on the relationships of the individuals in their family and also in the society. This paper delves into the multifaceted connection between familial dynamics and the social context present in the novel. It aims to uncover the institutional failures in society due to the extremities of authorities and brutal measures taken by the dominant individuals.
