Title of the paper :
AUTONOMY VS AUTOMATION: LANGUAGE, SELF-EXPRESSION AND DIGITAL FREEDOM
Abstract:
In an era increasingly dominated by artificial intelligence and algorithmic systems, the boundaries between human autonomy and digital automation are being critically redefined. This paper explores the tension between technological efficiency and individual expression, focusing on how AI and digital platforms influence the core of language, selfrepresentation, and liberty. As AI tools reshape the way we write, speak, and share, questions arise Are we amplifying human creativity or outsourcing it Are digital identities curated or controlled By examining literature, social media, and usergenerated content through a digital humanities lens, this study investigates how automation affects linguistic diversity, personal narrative, and the authenticity of online presence. The work also addresses the implications for marginalized voices and the potential erasure of cultural nuance in favour of algorithmfriendly communication. Through critical analysis and contemporary examples, the paper argues for a conscious balance one that honors technological innovation while safeguarding the irreplaceable autonomy of human thought and expression. In doing so, it seeks to contribute to an ongoing dialogue about the ethics of language, liberty, and identity in the digital age.
